Easter Vigil
The Easter Vigil takes place on Holy Saturday–the night before Easter morning. It is a solemn celebration of light, love and life.
The Light of Christ!
The congregation gathers after dark in the courtyard where the Holy Fire is lit. From that fire the light is shared with each of the faithful as they process into the darkened church. There multiple readings from the Old Testament which recount God’s plan of salvation are heard. New Catholics are baptized and confirmed as the church celebrates Christ’s resurrection.
The Exultet – the ancient hymn of Christ’s triumph
Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven,
exult, let Angel ministers of God exult,
let the trumpet of salvation
sound aloud our mighty King’s triumph!
Be glad, let earth be glad, as glory floods her,
ablaze with light from her eternal King,
let all corners of the earth be glad,
knowing an end to gloom and darkness.
